Public ratings: what we could verify
We only print a score when we can see the platform, the number of reviews behind it and the date. On the day we checked, only one platform gave us all three. Here is what we saw, and what each figure covers.
What we checked on 29 October 2026
- Tripadvisor The hotel's review page asked for a CAPTCHA and we could not read it. No figure is quoted.
- Booking.com The page we reached showed general marketing text, not the property's score.
- Agoda The page for The Star Grand displayed an overall rating of 8.7, but no count of reviews was visible. The same page's auto-written description also mentioned an on-site golf course, which the resort does not list anywhere. With that error on the page and no review count, we treat the score as unreliable and do not use it.
- Google Maps The place card for The Star Gold Coast, as shown in the embedded map on our how to get there page, read 4.2 out of 5 from 14,840 reviews on 29 October 2026. This is the one figure we could read with a platform, a count and a date, so we print it — with a caveat: the card covers the whole resort, casino included, not a single hotel.

We will add the other platforms when we can read them properly — platform, number of reviews and the date we looked. Until then, an honest blank is more useful than a borrowed number.
How to read reviews of this resort
Because one resort contains four hotels, reviews get mixed up. A complaint about no rollaway bed may be about Dorsett, where rollaways do not exist; praise for a quiet pool may be about The Darling's pool, which other guests cannot use. When you read a review, look for which building the writer stayed in before you take the verdict to your own booking.
- Parking comments The resort itself warns that the car park is often full on Friday and Saturday evenings and is not guaranteed with a room. A review that complains about parking on a Saturday is describing the published rules, not bad luck.
- Noise and the casino The gaming floor is at the centre of the complex and open around the clock. Reviews that mention noise may be about the walk to a restaurant rather than the room.
- Breakfast Breakfast is served in several places with different rules — walk-in only at Harvest Buffet, daily at Nineteen, room service from 6am. Ask which one is included in your rate.
- Room age The Star Grand says its Executive Deluxe Rooms and Ocean Terrace Suites were refurbished; it does not say that every room was. Reviews mentioning tired rooms may refer to categories that were not.
Our own view
Our editorial verdict is on the review page. It is built from published facts and is not a guest score: we do not invent stays, guests or quotes.
