Two nights on Broadbeach Island

An outside look at The Star Gold Coast — the casino resort with four hotels, a theatre and nine places to eat, three hundred metres from the surf. Written for couples and weekenders who want the beach by day and a good table at night, and who would rather know the fine print before they book.

What this place actually is

The Star Gold Coast is not one hotel. On the same patch of land in Broadbeach — the resort calls it Broadbeach Island — sit four places to sleep: The Star Grand with 592 rooms, the all-suite Darling with 56 suites, the apartments of The Star Residences in Towers 1 and 2, and the 313-room Dorsett Gold Coast. Around them are a casino that runs around the clock, The Star Theatre, an event centre, a rooftop restaurant, a buffet, a dumpling kitchen and a handful of bars.

That matters for a booking more than any brochure line. Which pool you can use, whether you can park, what time the gym opens and whether a rollaway bed is even possible all depend on which of the four buildings your room is in. Most of the confusion we see in public reviews comes from people comparing a Darling suite with a Dorsett twin as if they were the same hotel. They are not, and this guide keeps them apart page by page.

Our short verdict

For a couple who want two nights of beach, a long dinner and maybe a concert, The Star Gold Coast works because almost everything is under one roof and the sand is a short walk away. The Star Grand is the sensible default. The Darling is the splurge — its suites start at 70 square metres and come with a pool that only Darling guests may use. Dorsett suits a cheaper-feeling, younger stay with a lounge upgrade option. The Residences are for families or friends who want a kitchen and a washing machine.

The weak points are practical rather than glamorous. Parking is limited and, in the resort's own words, regularly full on Friday and Saturday evenings. The casino sits at the centre of the complex, so you walk past gaming floors to reach several restaurants and bars, and those venues are adults-only. And the operator has spent four years under a Queensland Government Special Manager — we explain what that means for a guest, which is very little, in a plain note.

Who it suits, and who it does not

  1. Couples on a two-night break The core use case. Book a balcony room or a Darling suite, keep one evening for Nineteen or Kiyomi and one for the beach. Check-in is 3pm, check-out 11am.
  2. Concert weekends The Star Theatre holds up to 2,150 people and the walk from your room to your seat is indoors. Dates for the coming season are on our shows page.
  3. Families Workable, with planning. The Residences have kitchens and family apartments up to 217 m²; Harvest Buffet lets children eat free with a paying adult on Friday nights. Several bars and the gaming floors are strictly 18+.
  4. Groups and weddings The Event Centre ballroom covers 1,627.5 m², and smaller rooms go down to a private dining room for ten. See meetings and weddings.
  5. Drivers of tall vans and campers Look elsewhere for parking: the car park takes nothing over 1.95 m, and trailers and oversized vehicles are not allowed on site.

Where it is

The resort sits on Broadbeach Island beside the Nerang River, about half an hour by road from Gold Coast Airport and a 90-minute drive from Brisbane, according to the resort. The G:link tram stops at Broadbeach North, a short walk away, and the beach is roughly 300 metres off. Press the button below to load the Google map; it stays switched off until you do.

How this guide is made

Every number on these pages was read on an official page of The Star Gold Coast, a Queensland Government page or the airport, on 29 October 2026, and each page lists its sources at the bottom. Where we lean on Wikipedia we say so. We do not print room prices, because they change daily and a stale price is worse than none. We were not hosted or paid by the hotel. We make money one way only, explained on how we earn: a commission when a room request sent through this site turns into a confirmed stay.

Two nights by the beach? Send us the dates

Three short steps: dates, the room you have in mind, where to reply. Our desk takes it from there.

How it works: the request goes to this site's booking desk, not to the hotel. We check availability and the current rate with the hotel's reservations team or a booking partner and answer by email. We never ask for card details here, and a request is not a booking.

If your request turns into a confirmed stay, the hotel or the booking partner that completes it pays us a commission. You pay nothing extra for asking. How we earn.

Received. Our desk now checks the dates with the hotel's reservations team or a booking partner and replies by email, usually within one business day. Nothing is booked or charged until you say yes to an offer.
